Who cares? It’s a stupid game taken way too seriously by nerds who need something to cling to.
For the first minute of this video, I was treated to Ben stuffing his face, trying to speak whilst chewing, all while smacking his lips after every third word. What the fuck my guy? I will no longer be watching the content you have to offer after that textbook display of style and etiquette.
I’m 1455, this was very insightful
The takeaway message is: "good players always do the same thing and bad players just randomly random". So wise.😅
I've heard this advice from others, but for some reason, hearing it from you actually stuck with me. I've been stuck at 800 and I know realise is that it's not because I'm bad at chess, it's because I make one move blunders. And when I make one move blunders, I don't learn from them.
Thank you for getting through to me.
Some good advice was spoken
Please God… don’t eat while streaming.
I'm stuck in the 600s elo my tactics are trash
Plus it's hard to have a plan when players can play anything with unlimited variations
bro when i'm drinking i do way better
WHAT ON EARTH is that video
I thought of another reason: I’ve got no talent. That’s the real reason
Stop being so hard to chew to get better at chess. Got it.
I cant even fucking get passed 250 bro
So basically don't make blunders. Got it.
I watched this last night and everything clicked. My score went up close to a hundred points. I was stuck at 1400 for too long.Thank you very much.I subscribed.
My problem is I need time to think. I'm 2000 in puzzles but only 600 in rapid. The clock makes me nervous.
So much rambling and useless information, it is hard to watch this channel. 20 seconds on whether it's the 1983, 1984 or 1985 tournament….who cares????
Know how to play it, but could never get better at it. It got so frustrating I decided it wasn't the game for me and moved on. I respect the experts though.
@5:36 thanks for clearing that one up!
Next time, don't eat food when you are presenting something. Its gross and unsightly. I stopped watching the vid at a minute in. Learn to eat with your mouth shut as well. Eck. Won't ever watch anything with you again.
Every single video. And I mean evvvverrrry single video… You always eat smack and munch & burp straight into the microphone and it's so gross. You've been doing it for years. STOP EATING FAST FOOD IT'S KILLING YOU!
Then there's the opposite, when you make a great move and don't realize how great it was until a few moves later
Haha, thanks Ben, I blundered half my pieces then sat and took about two mins and came up with a forced mate
I'm not a chess guy and don't follow anyone but I have to say, you've helped me to do much better at chess, and to enjoy the game far more than I used to, Mr. Finegold. Love your work.
Just like golf.. you can tell if someone is going to hit far before they even swing a club. Just the way they stand.
stop eating and teach
Try being stuck at elo 400
That's not chess advice; that's a methodology for life – a quite ancient one at that.
I hardily play, or study, I don't know any openings properly. I just fight for the centre, protect everything. I am 1250 rating on rapid, I don't think I am good, players literally blunder nearly every game against me. They do crazy queen attacks, they hang pieces, they lose tempo by moving the same piece twice. They clearly don't look at my position. Do this every move, don't hurry to find a move, 1. Check for checks first, 2 Check all possible exchanges, in case some beneficial exchanges exist, 3. Look where to attack. Also never leave a piece unprotected unless you are ready to protect next move. The centre is a the top of the mountain, don't just occupy it aim pieces on it especially in opening move. If your opponent has a white biship get and keep you pawns on light squares, vice versa. Find good positions for all pieces (not hard to learn, no point having pieces if they aren't working hard and active). Develop pieces in opening fully, castle early. Be very wary of moving pawns, they are your protectors and you can't take them back. There are more basics as well. Do your basics well, you will rise up the rating. I am only 1250, but I know under 1500 players aren't anything special. Stop worrying about ratings, you are an average player below 1500. Don't play blitz, you won't learn how to think. .
The reason I am not improving is because of so many negative videos being pushed down and negativity pushed down on my playstation which I don’t like
aaron carter made a blunder
gahhh I'm so frustrated. I was stuck at 1100 for the longest time, then I just went on a tear and climbed to 1300, then I'm losing every game ever and back down to 1100 again. Y SO FRUSTRATE
If you’re not good at chess, and you study like mad and it does nothing, work on improving your analysis.A 200 can go into game review and say “Oh that was a blunder, don’t do that again” and then commit the same blunder just in a different way. They have to learn not to commit that blunder 20 different ways instead of understanding what’s happening and being like “Oh, don’t do this when that happens” the engine just doesn’t tell you, and because of the lack of understanding definitely can’t utilize the motifs themselves. Analysis at the end of your games builds calculation during a game. You learn to evaluate and see patterns, and even without calculating can knock out like half of the really bad moves you really wanted to play.
Been stuck at around the 1800's for the longest
Is this SLOV ZIZEK teaching chess?
Ever seen Rob Reiner on South Park ? ThTs all I can see in my mind watching this .
Your eating and drinking is annoying..can't watch
I think this is easy to say and it, in fact, sounds very harsh from my point of view as I have considered these exact ideas and to improve based on them, but still, at a certain point I can't get out of the habit of playing on impulse, especially if I am time-pressured. I just don't have all the time in the world to think of all the threats, therefore it is my bad habits, but I guess one has to do it early on when still young to use the plasticity of the brain. I just can't help but play on impulse sometimes and not examine all the possible captures. Yes, that probably makes me an idiot, as the video suggests.
I switched from bltz to rapid and jumped from 1200 to 2000 no lie
Man was like u are stupid…. delicious….u still stupid but l'ma tell u why
the reason you don't get more views is because you're eating and smacking disgustingly during your entire video.

Huh… I thought you were about to explain how to analyze a game when you started talking about poker and pool. You left out the advice part. Honestly, if you never think about what you do, you should realize that's holding you back. If you don't realize that there's hope.
You know people who click on a video entitled Why You Never Get Better, want to get better. They're looking for advice. Something like, you need to analyze your games, and here's how you do that. You can give your video any title, that's 100% your choice, but once you give it a title you have to address the issues you pose. I don't think you did.
